Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Week 4

This is week 4 of Bacardi Mama's Hit Me With Your Best Shot photo challenge.  And it was a little more challenging for me than usual since I could no longer photograph the birds at our backyard bird feeder because of this predator.

So Mr. Right and I had to venture out and look for interesting things to photograph.  We found several and this was my favorite.  It's a shot of our frozen Michigan City harbor with the sun beginning to get low in the sky.
Of course there were several that almost made the cut including this one of the lighthouse.
And this one of the ice shelf and the lonely, now out-of-place lifeguard stand.
We liked this one because of the tracks in the sand and the ice shelf in the background.
And this one of the huge pile of snow half covered with wind blown sand had to be included because even the most depressing sights can have a silver lining.
And finally as the evening waned, I captured one last shot before it got too dark.  We like it because it almost looked like the woods were on fire.
That's it for this week but to see more favorite photos, visit Nancy at Bacardi Mama.  And for even more fun, join in.  We'd love to see your best shots of the week too!

You Capture - Serene

Beth's You Capture subject his week is serene and my first serene photo pays homage to our men and women in the military. With two sons in the Army, a holiday like this one holds special meaning to our family. And thanks to all the brave members of the military, a picture of our flag can actually be 'serene'.

I knew the perfect spot to capture serenity would be Striebel Pond. You know, the swans swimming on the quiet water? But alas the swans are gone. I caught a couple of serenity shots there (that's where I captured the flag) but there just wasn't a lot of variety.

Then yesterday, just before sunset, when the air was still and the temperature was warm, Mr. Right and I headed up to the beach. And I think our beach and harbor area really says Serene.

You Capture - 2009 Favorites

It's so nice of Beth to give us a chance to include the pictures that we took and loved in 2009 but that didn't fit in the week's assignments.

One set that I was excited about included the sunset pictures taken at the beach while we waited for the fireworks in July.

Others that I loved included some nature shots that I took back when I used to walk religiously:

And finally some sunset pictures taken of a wild sky with a brilliant sun. We happened to be traveling West and the constantly changing sunset was incredible. I probably took almost 100 pictures of it. Choosing the ones to include was almost inpossible and I'm still not sure that Mr. Right and I got it right.

Oh and the zoo pictures! I can't believe I almost forgot them. Just a couple okay?

Oh and Garden of the Gods. I almost forgot Garden of the Gods. Just 2 - that's all then.

For more favorites of budding professional and dedicated amatuer photographers like myself, visit Beth at Ishouldbefoldinglaundry and if you've got some favorites, this would be a great chance to join in.

Memories

We went to the beach in Michigan City with Beth & family last summer for the fireworks. It was a such a pleasant evening, with perfect weather.

Apparently the sand and the water and the beautiful sunset reminded Beth of something else that happened at the beach for the first time many years ago. I clicked away while Beth told her audacious story. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

You Capture - Shapes

Shapes! What a fun subject. And with a little coaching from the ultimate coach, Beth at Ishouldbefoldinglaundry I was able to come up with a an interesting beach picture taken at our fireworks display (one week after the 4th). That's just how we roll in our hometown.

And is this perhaps a hexagon?

And the focal point of this picture is a really beautiful circle.

Mr. Right and I have taken up walking recently, so I grabbed these shapes from our favorite walking site. We've just graduated from the oval to the figure eight which could qualify as two circles. Right?
